November 13 – International Day of Prayer for Orphans

November 13 is the International Day of Prayer for Orphans. The Lord teaches us that “pure and undefiled piety before God and the Father is this: to look after widows and orphans in their afflictions.” Perhaps there will always be orphans in society, but it is up to people of good will and, in particular, Christians to reduce their number.
The first Christians transformed the world because they lived and thought differently, not like the pagan world. Their distinguishing feature was love. They demonstrated to the cruel pagan world their concern for the weak, the sick and the outcast. It was Christians who began to organize the first orphanages to take care of children abandoned or who had lost their parents. Today, the presence of orphanages will not surprise anyone, except perhaps the number of children in them. Modern Christians have a different task – to love so that there are no orphans left. Remembering your own adoption by Heavenly Father.
The Alliance “Ukraine Without Orphans,” which is the initiator of this day in Ukraine, noted that anyone can join the prayer for disadvantaged children by simply thanking God for their family and praying for a family for those who are still dreaming of one.
