There is a remedy for fear!
Fear … Has it become a problem for you? Does it steal the joy of life? Does it prevent you from leading a fulfilling life? I hasten to please you: there is a remedy against fear!
One of the many advantages of being a Christian is freedom from fear. If you are afraid of changes, difficulties, remember what God promised: if you are obedient to Him, He will go before you and help you win.
When, wanting to get a new job, you go to an interview, then do not be afraid of possible failure, but rather ask God to attract to you the person with whom you should talk. When God prepares a way for us, we can be sure that everything will turn out for our good and according to His perfect will for our lives.
The Bible tells of a man named Abraham who hoped in God against his own fears. “And the Lord said to Abraham: Go from your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you” (Genesis 12:10).
How would you feel if God asked you to leave your home, your family, everything that is familiar and dear to you, and go in an unknown direction? would you be scared Abraham also had to deal with the feeling of fear. But God said to him: “Do not be afraid.” God spoke the same words to Joshua when he called him to lead the people of Israel and lead them to the promised land (Joshua 1:6-9). And today God says to you: “Do not be afraid!”
Elizabeth Elliott, whose husband was killed along with four other missionaries in Ecuador, says that after these events, fear completely gripped her. But a conversation with a friend gave her back her lost freedom. A friend said, “Start preaching in spite of fear.” Elizabeth followed this advice. Together with Rachel Saint, the sister of one of the murdered missionaries, she set out to evangelize Ecuadorian tribes, including those who had killed their loved ones.
If we stand still because we are afraid to take a step forward and wait for the fear to pass, we will never do anything significant.
The word do not be afraid means do not run away. And here is the antidote to fear: act in spite of the fear. Know that God has gone before you, prepared the way for you, and is waiting for you to follow Him. Even if your knees are shaking, keep going. God gave Abraham an order: “Pack your bags, leave your home and go where I will show you.” If Abraham had been afraid, he would never have become the father of many nations. If Joshua had not overcome fear and fulfilled God’s command to lead His people to the promised land, he would never have enjoyed the benefits of this land.
The same with us. If we give in to fear, we prevent God from blessing us. So act despite the fear!
