Our thoughts become our words
Over the years, I understand more and more how strong the relationship between thoughts and words is. I believe that understanding this close dependence is of great importance for believers.
Words depend on thinking. Negative thoughts lead to negative words, which, in turn, make life negative and joyless. The roots of many people’s problems lie in wrong thinking. Every person has negative thoughts, but it is in our power to resist them. We need to learn to determine which thoughts and words are acceptable and which are not. Because I thought and spoke negatively for many years, I became a very negative person. I was guided by the principle: “If you don’t expect anything good, you won’t be disappointed when nothing good happens.” Does this sound familiar to you? Because there were so many disappointments in life, I was afraid to believe that there could be anything good in my life. My attitude towards everything in life was negative.
If I continued to believe the lie that I could never move on from my past, I would never be able to do so. But God was speaking and telling me that my past should not rule my future. The moment came when I realized that my life will not change until I correct my speech, and my speech will not change until I correct my thinking. There is a close relationship between thoughts and words.
Make a decision to think and speak positively. It will not happen by itself and instantly. If you fail, pick yourself up, put the pessimism aside and keep going. Before a baby learns to walk, it will fall more than once. Just because you fall sometimes doesn’t mean you’re a failure. It means you’re not doing it right yet. But there is no person who does everything right all the time.
If you have a negative mindset and say a lot of negative words, then know that the path to freedom begins with the recognition of this problem. Be patient with yourself. As your thinking changes, so will your language, and therefore life!
