Many people strive for a special connection with God, but sometimes subconscious habits and feelings can distance us from this path. In this article, we want to highlight five things that can hinder our spiritual growth and draw us away from God.
The Desire to Control Everything
Although much has been entrusted to human hands, there are things subject to God alone. While doing everything possible on your part, humbly trust the rest to God and stop worrying about things beyond your control.
The Tendency to Compare Yourself with Others
God has a unique story written for your life. But by constantly comparing your journey with others, you only turn away from the miracles He is working for you! Concentrate on how God is working in your own life.
The Habit of Complaining
Complaining is an attempt to say to God: “If I were behind the wheel, I would do everything better than You!” From such a mindset, it is difficult to hear God and see the purpose and reasons behind what He allows in your life.
Cultivate gratitude within yourself and remind yourself that God’s plans for you are always for good! (Jeremiah 29:11)
Rushing and Busyness
To understand and absorb God’s Word, we need time. To hear Him, we need time. To become more like Jesus, we need time. Put God first and do not rush when spending time with Him!
The Desire to Do Everything for Show
God, seeing your secret deeds and sacrifices for His Name’s sake, may reward you openly, but that should not be your motivation.
Therefore, when doing good or simply cultivating your relationship with Him, keep it between the two of you. A relationship with God is primarily personal, not public.
