The world everyone needs

Of all the strangest inscriptions that have ever been written on walls, billboards, public restrooms, buildings and broken down cars, the most unusual is the inscription from the book of Isaiah on the wall in front of the United Nations (UN) building in downtown New York.
It goes like this:“And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more”(Is. 2:4).
This prophecy is very relevant today for many countries that are experiencing the horror of war, and it is especially relevant today for us, because we live at a time when war is happening in our country and innocent people are dying. And if for some of us a year ago the word “peace” didn’t really mean anything or, perhaps, was akin to a good wish, today each of us dreams and prays for peace for Ukraine, because we all see what it means to live in a country where there is no peace.
But where can we get this peace about which Isaiah prophesied? How to buy it and how much money can you buy it for? Is it possible to negotiate peace with terrorists when, literally after the truce was concluded, they are again shelling peaceful cities and the Ukrainian military?
The same prophet Isaiah points us to the source of peace, to the One who alone can give peace, both to an individual person and to entire countries and peoples:
“Oh, that you would listen to My commandments! then your peace would be like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.” (Isa.48:18)
“And all your sons will be taught by the Lord, and your sons will have great peace.” (Isa.54:13).
Isaiah very clearly and unambiguously reveals to everyone who wants to find peace that the giver of peace is the Creator, who not only initially provided everything necessary for our existence here on earth, but also saw the possibility of life in harmony and peace between countries, peoples and individuals.
You may say that in theory this all sounds very nice, but in life all these biblical truths do not work. After all, the whole world around us yearns for peace, the world seeks peace, but does not find it. All kinds of organizations are created, meetings and conferences are held, treaties and agreements are signed, but there is still no peace. New conflicts and wars are emerging everywhere, terrorist attacks are occurring, people are being taken hostage. In families, hatred, resentment and insults flourish among the closest people. Here completely different words of the prophet Jeremiah are appropriate: “they heal the wounds of my people lightly, saying: “Peace! peace!”, but there is no peace”(Jer. 6:14). There is no peace in society, there is no peace in the family, and in the souls of people. Why is there no peace? Why is there so much hostility and violence around us? After all, it seems that all people sincerely desire peace.
Maybe the whole point is that the world is looking for peace where there has never been any? Perhaps the world confuses “peace” with the simple absence of conflict? Real peace comes from God and is His gift. The peace given by God is beyond all understanding, and it is found only by those who strive with all their might to order their lives according to the will of God.
People constantly make peace and constantly get involved in wars because they have forgotten the advice to fight within themselves and turn to God for help. After all, if we turn to the Lord, then He will be the winner in our life, and we will find peace for ourselves, for our home, for society and for the whole world.
If we do this, then in addition to peace in our hearts, we will also find joy, because it is the property of those who overcome. After all, God never loses battles, which means that together with Him we also become winners. At the same time, we ourselves will become messengers of true peace and will be able to bring this great treasure to all those with whom we meet, among whom we are: to our family, to work, to friends, to our society, to the entire world around us. Not in words, but in our lives we will be able to embody one of the commandments of Christ:“Whatever house you enter, first say: peace to this house; and if the son of peace is there, then your peace will rest on him, but if not, then it will return to you.” (Luke 10:5-6).
A wish for peace is not just a beautiful greeting – it is the message that the disciples of Christ should bring to this world.Peace with God, through Jesus Christ. Peace, which is found through the recognition of one’s sinfulness and the impossibility of building a just society and love in the family without God’s participation. After all, by and large, world peace begins in the heart of a specific person, and this person should be you and me.
