A Book on the Meaning of Life

Preface
This book, long conceived, forms a natural continuation of my 1924 book, “The Fall of Idols.” It was compiled in response to repeated requests from friends and associates for a sequel that would reveal the positive content of the ideas that were presented in “The Fall of Idols,” primarily as a critique of prevailing prejudices. This second book, like the first, being an expression of the author’s personal beliefs, grew out of conversations and debates within the Russian student Christian movement. It is therefore offered primarily to the attention of young participants in this movement and, in general, Russian youth abroad.

This also determines the style of the book: the author has attempted to express his religious and philosophical ideas in the simplest and most accessible form possible, and speaks only of what is of vital importance.
